Math Unit 5 Test: Data & Geometry
Name Date
Part 1: Graphs & Data
Use the data to make a graph and answer the questions.
- Rafi measured 10 pencils in inches: 5, 6, 6, 7, 5, 6, 8, 7, 6, 5. Make a line plot. Use a number line from 5 to 8. Add a title and the label Inches.
- Use your line plot. (a) Which length is most common? (b) How many pencils are 7 inches or longer?
- Favorite fruit votes: apples 6, bananas 9, grapes 4, pears 2. Make a bar graph. Add a title and label both sides.
- Use your bar graph. How many more children chose bananas than grapes?
- How many children voted in all?
- How many fewer children chose pears than apples?
Part 2: Shape Attributes
Answer each question about shapes.
- (a) What is the name of a shape with 6 sides? (b) How many vertices does it have?
- A quadrilateral has how many sides? How many vertices?
- A cube has how many faces? What shape is each face?
- Tom says a long, skinny shape with 3 sides is not a triangle. Is Tom right? Why?
Part 3: Partitioning
Draw in the box. Then answer the question.
- Draw a rectangle. Split it into 3 rows and 4 columns of same-size squares. How many squares? Write an addition equation.
- Draw a circle. Split it into fourths. Shade one share. What is one share called?
- Draw two same-size rectangles. Split each one into halves a different way.
- A pizza is cut into 3 equal shares. (a) What is each share called? (b) How many thirds make the whole pizza? (c) Is one third bigger or smaller than one half of the same pizza?
Part 4: Extended Response
Show your thinking with drawings, numbers and words.
- Mom has a square pan of cornbread. Four people will share it fairly. (a) Draw two squares. Split each one into fourths a different way. (b) Are the shares in your two squares the same size, even if they look different? Explain.
- A family voted on a favorite pet: dog 8, cat 5, fish 3, bird 4. Make a picture graph or a bar graph with a title and labels. Then write one "how many more" question about your graph and answer it.
