Arizona: Second Grade and your state's standards

Second Grade is built on the national frameworks that most state standards are based on or closely resemble: the Common Core State Standards for math and English language arts, the national K-12 science framework (the Next Generation Science Standards*), and the C3 Framework for social studies. Every lesson lists the standard it teaches.

The state's own standards, informed by the C3 Framework

Grade 2 topics your state adds or places differently

    • ELA: a Writing Foundations strand asks Grade 2 children to write legibly in print (manuscript), with correct letter formation and spacing.

      Partly covered

Your child makes neat final copies each week in Publishing (for example Weeks 3, 4 and 8). Add 10 minutes of print practice twice a week: model 3 letters on lined paper, have your child copy a row of each, and check letter size and a finger space between words.
