Idaho: Second Grade and your state's standards

Second Grade is built on the national frameworks that most state standards are based on or closely resemble: the Common Core State Standards for math and English language arts, the national K-12 science framework (the Next Generation Science Standards*), and the C3 Framework for social studies. Every lesson lists the standard it teaches.

    The state's own standards

Grade 2 topics your state adds or places differently

    • Grade 2 social studies compares two of Idaho's five federally recognized tribes (Coeur d'Alene, Kootenai, Shoshone-Bannock, Nez Perce and Shoshone-Paiute).

      Partly covered

Week 21 teaches Native nations that live today, and the My State, Part 2 add-on asks which nations live in your state. Add a 20-minute session: choose two of Idaho's five tribes, read about each from its official website or a library book, and make a two-column chart comparing them.

    • The Grade 2 reading fluency standard points to specific published fluency norms (Hasbrouck and Tindal, 2017).

      Partly covered

Weeks 29 and 35 check fluency as words correct per minute. Compare your child's Week 35 score with the Grade 2 table in the Hasbrouck and Tindal (2017) fluency norms that the Idaho standard names.
