Washington: Second Grade and your state's standards

Second Grade is built on the national frameworks that most state standards are based on or closely resemble: the Common Core State Standards for math and English language arts, the national K-12 science framework (the Next Generation Science Standards*), and the C3 Framework for social studies. Every lesson lists the standard it teaches.

Grade 2 topics your state adds or places differently

    • Math (2026 standards, required from 2027-28): a data science strand where second graders ask questions, collect data and read data displays. This goes beyond the Common Core Grade 2 graphing standard.

      Partly covered

Weeks 25 and 26 collect data and read graphs. Add 10 minutes for your child to make up their own question, collect the answers and read the graph with you.
