ELA Unit 6 Test: Year-End ELA Celebration & Assessment
Part 1: Literature & Informational Text
Read the story and the nonfiction text. Then answer the questions. You can look back at both.
Two Texts About the Moon
Text 1: Arlo and the Moon Arlo and his big sister Rose rode home in the car after a soccer game. Arlo pressed his nose to the window. "Look, the moon is following us!" he said. Rose laughed. "It only seems that way. The moon is very, very far away, so it looks like it stays in the same spot." Arlo frowned. He did not like being wrong. Then he had an idea. "Tomorrow night, let's look at the moon again and draw it." Arlo drew the moon on five nights that week. Each moon looked a little different. Arlo grinned. "Now I am a moon scientist," he said. Text 2: The Moon The moon is Earth's closest neighbor in space. It is a big ball of rock. The moon does not make its own light. The light we see is sunlight that bounces off the moon. The moon seems to change shape. Some nights it looks round and full. Other nights it looks like a thin slice. The moon does not really change. We just see different parts of its sunny side as it moves around Earth. It takes about a month to go from one full moon to the next. There is no air to breathe on the moon. The astronauts who walked there had to wear space suits.
